A Local Sewing Resource Guide

Here's a quick list of all the places I recommend for sewing supplies. We try to keep things as local or small business as possible, but that is increasingly difficult as small (and big) sewing shops close.
SEWING MACHINES
I recommend the Singer Heavy Duty 4423 that we use in the studio. It's a few years old now, but here's a YouTube video explaining what I look for in a machine and why I like this one!
FABRIC
For brand new fabric:
-Americana Fabrics in Rocky Hill (or their much bigger warehouse in Waterford!)
-Colchester Mills Fabric & Quilting in Colchester
-Cate's Sew Modern in Guilford
For previously owned fabric:
-Our Little Free Sewing Store for little goodies. Make sure to check Instagram highlighted stories for the hours each week!
-Revive Art & Craft Supply in Middletown
BASIC TOOLS
This blog post has a list of the basic tools a new sewer needs. All the links are Amazon, but you'd be able to find them at any of the sewing stores listed above!
BOOKS
For kids:
-My favorite series is the Sewing School books by Amie Petronis Plumley and Andria Lisle. Riverbend bookstore on Park Rd has confirmed that they can order these in time for Christmas if you order by this Wednesday, December 10th!
For adults:
-The Sewing Machine Classroom by Charlene Phillips
LESSONS
OTHER GIFTS
These aren't sewing related, but are my favorite places in the Park Road neighborhood to pick up gifts!
-Gift certificates to AC Petersens
We hope you and yours have a wonderful holiday season and can't wait to sew with you in the new year!
Happy Stitching!
