THE COMMUNITY
QUILT
The Community Quilt Project just finished up its 8th year with a grand total of 37 quilts donated to Journey Home!
How it works:
Starting in October we put out the call for scrappy, improvisational, color themed 13" x 13" quilt blocks for our 100 Block Drive. (In 2025 we got over 250!). You don't have to wait to get started on your scrappy blocks, but we won't collect until the fall.
Beginning in January we collect donations of batting, backing, and binding fabric.
At the beginning of February we host a Community Quilt Day where we begin to assemble all the quilt tops and quilt sandwiches.
By the beginning of March volunteers have quilted and bound the quilts! They are returned to the studio for labels and final look over.
At the end of March we meet at Morley Elementary playground for our Quilt Hanging Send-Off! Afterwards, the quilts are delivered to Journey Home who in turn brings them to their clients who are transitioning out of homelessness.
It takes many, many hands to bring a project this size to life and we are so grateful for everyone! Whether you sew blocks, donate supplies, or spread the word-- we couldn't do it without you!
Stay tuned for more details about The Community Quilt Project 2027 that will kick off in October. We have some big plans for next year!
