If you've ever dreamed of sewing dresses for your little girl (or someone else's!) we have the class for you! Next week starts our 2 part Geranium Dress class. It's listed as an "Intermediate Sewist" class which means that you should be comfortable with seam allowances and cutting fabric. Not too difficult at all!
I adore this pattern by Made by Rae. It's my go-to for little girl dresses and having made at least 8 or 9 of them in the past year and a half. Once you have the pattern down you can get it done in under 2 hours!
The best part is that the options are ENDLESS. The pattern comes with several but it's super easy to add design elements of your own.
Flutter sleeves? Cap sleeves? No sleeves? I've even added long sleeves for pajamas.
V neck? Notched neck? Scooped neck? I've also added collars with adorable results!
Gathered skirt? Pleated skirt?
Shirt length? Dress length? Or stretch it out to the floor when trying to make Cindy-Loo-Who-esque pajamas!
Buttons? Snaps? I've even used an invisible zipper.
I've done accent fabrics around the bodice line, for the bodice, and bands around the bottom.
I've smocked the bodice, embroidered the bottom and added scallops at the skirt.
But sometimes simple is best. When I saw that we were going to have a glorious 70 degree day today I broke out some fabric I've been hoarding for awhile: Wee Wander by Sarah Jane. As it's a border print (meaning that the image is along the selvage and very directional) so it needed to have the perfect use.
Naturally it became a Geranium Dress! I did the standard dress length, scoop neck, cap sleeves and buttons. No fooling with the pattern this time.
My Little seems quite pleased with the twirliness of it!
