Embroidered Portrait

Service Description

With a few simple stitches you can transform a favorite photographed portrait into an embroidered work of art! The focus of this workshop will be embroidering a face. Participants will learn about different stitches to create lines and texture, how to transfer the photo onto fabric, and making decisions about thread types and colors. It is appropriate for both beginners and experienced embroiderers. Class kit is $20 and includes a 6” hoop, 3 pieces of cotton fabric, a marking pen, a pencil, tracing paper, embroidery floss, needles, and instructions to complete the project at home. Participants should bring a clear photograph of one person’s face (experienced embroiderers may try a photo with two to three faces) printed out. The face should be about 5-7”. Beverly Army Williams has been smitten with textiles and fiber arts since she was seven. An avid crocheter, knitter, weaver, quilter, and garment maker, she has been embroidering for 18 years. Her early projects used transfers from Sublime Stitching–roller derby girl aprons, French knot poodles onesies, and whimsical chihuahua tea towels. After a class with Cal Patch, Beverly broke free from patterns to embark on numerous long-term embroidery art projects. She has studied with Sarah Pedlow of Thread Written, Claire Wellesley-Smith, Adriana Torres and Ekta Kaul. Beverly has shared her love of embroidery teaching at her local Women on the Way club, and in her Slow Fashion course at Westfield State University. Cancellation Policy

-A minimum enrollment must be met by 48 hours prior to the workshop or the workshop may be cancelled. If this happens you will receive a full refund. -You may cancel for a refund or transfer your registration up to 1 week before a one-time workshop, 2 weeks before a Foundations or After School series and 4 weeks before a camp. There are no refunds or class transfers for guest teachers. After this date there will be no refunds or transfers unless we are able to fill your spot from a waitlist. -Hartford Stitch reserves the right to cancel a class at any time. Should we do so you will receive a full refund. -No shows forfeit any refund or transfers. -Hartford Stitch reserves the right to substitute teachers either for a single class or the entire session if necessary.
